[personal profile] ysabetwordsmith posting in [community profile] birdfeeding
This is today's second freebie from the February 6, 2024 Poetry Fishbowl on "Twisted Genres."  It was inspired by a prompt from [personal profile] scrubjayspeaks. It also fills the "Eggs" square in my 2-1-24 card for the Valentines Bingo fest.

"The Beauty of Birds"
-- a limeriku

The beauty of birds is in eggs,
Those speckled or plain little kegs,
So go to the shore
And find a few more
Tucked under their parents' long legs.

Notes:

[personal profile] scrubjayspeaks asked for a mashup of haiku and limerick. I'm calling this one a limeriku, which has the structure of a limerick but the mood and topic of a haiku.

The limerick is a poetic form that customarily features humor. Learn how to write a limerick.

The haiku comes in different types. It typically features nature and focuses on a moment in time. Learn how to write a haiku.

Birds lay eggs in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. Many are quite beautiful. See a gallery of shorebird eggs. Learn how to identify nests and eggs. Browse some books about bird eggs and nests, including a sample from The Book of Eggs.
